Before I was so rudely interrupted by starting this forum, I was working on converting a Wheels of Time 70' baggage car into car #46. The small door will be 1' too wide and the turtle back isn't an exact match, but I think it will be a good looking car when it's done.

Since this picture, I've chopped the floor and have fitted and glued one end. With the long weekend coming up, I hope to get all the pieces assembled except maybe the roof. I've only got one shot at getting that spot on if I want to keep the mounting tabs that are between the doors. So i will be taking my time on that.

I finished fitting the pieces of the roof and floor.

This car will be the test bed for finding a good CGW Maroon mix.

Thanks, I'm already wanting to make a more correct roof because when I look at the proto pictures it's so distinct.

Hey, since you know a lot more about passenger cars than I do, can you identify for me the vents or whatever for the roof? Some sort of circular vent with a square mount. Is there anyone who makes a similar part in N scale?

Jason (who never thought he'd be modeling a passenger train, and is now modeling two. )

Sorry it's been so long on an update. I lost alot of time trying to figure out how to make a more correct roof for the car.

After several failed attempts with styrene, I tried my router table with a 1/4" round over. It's not perfect, but it's a lot closer than I was. There's still a lot of sanding left to get the right shape, but I like what I see so far. After comparing it to the MTL heavyweights, it does sit too tall. Part of it's the body, but most is the roof. Hopefully I can lower it without ruining it.

Don't recognize those, and don't know of anything in N scale that is ready-made. I'm guessing they were a CGW shop built thing when the balloon roof was constructed.
